Brakes and Clutches

Standard Series Brakes

The industry standard and original Montalvo brake, the STANDARD Series offer wide horsepower and multiple torque ranges. They are available in 600, 800, 1000, 1400, and 1700 sizes, and offer modular design and interchangeable parts for flexibility, easy mounting, and easy maintenance.

C Series Brakes & Clutches

The C Series are the compact version of Montalvo's industry-standard, air-cooled design. It is perfect for narrow web and similar light to medium-duty applications. C Series brakes and clutches are available in several versions, including the dual disc CD Series, the single disc CS Series, and the caliper version CC Series, the last which is used with a customer-supplied caliper disc. Modular design and interchangeable parts make C Series easy to set up and maintain.

CS Series Brakes

Montalvo CS Series Brakes are a cost-effective choice in light-duty tension control applications. The CS Brake mounts in minutes in most applications. Just slide the assembly onto your keyed shaft, secure it with the torque pin and setscrews, and you are ready to apply air and run. CS Series single disc brakes are available in both 100 and 130mm sizes. Both sizes offer multiple range control similar to all larger Montalvo brake models.

HP Series Brakes

The advanced, compact design of the HP Series offers high sensitivity, high torque capacity and high-performance thermal characteristics (equal to the next larger size in the STANDARD Series). They are available in 600, 800, 1000, 1400,1700 and 2600 sizes, and feature modular design and interchangeable parts for flexibility, easy mounting, and easy maintenance.

HPS Series Brakes

The HPS is the high-performance partner to the HP Series. It is a low-inertia, single disc design that offers advanced performance characteristics. Each size HPS is equal in performance to the same size STANDARD Series dual disc brake. Available in sizes 6, 8, and 10, they offer modular design and interchangeable parts for flexibility, easy installation, setup, and maintenance.

HPS Series Clutches

HPS Series Clutches use a single HP Series disc to control tension in limited space applications. They also feature modular design, high thermal capacity and high torque range and capacity. Installation is easy and maintenance is a snap.

M-Caliper Series Brakes

Montalvo's M-Caliper brakes offer excellent torque and sensitivity characteristics for light to medium-duty applications where high thermal capacity is not a concern (applications include tension control, emergency stop, and position control). M-Calipers feature optional friction discs for easy installation, setup, and maintenance. Wear parts are the same as the HP, HPS, and Standard series.

V Series Brakes

Montalvo's V Series Brakes feature industry-standard high heat dissipation friction discs combined with all-new, patented "no-tools" easy pad maintenance. V250, V300, and V400 models offer the multiple ranges necessary for virtually any application. They require minimum downtime for installation on existing unwinders and are a snap when it comes to OEM applications. Optional safety covers are available with or without integral cooling fans.

Tension Controls

D-3000ce Dancer Controller

The Montalvo D-3000ce Dancer Controller was developed for unwind and rewind applications that employ a dancer arm. It is useful in the processing of imperfect rolls or in applications that experience dramatic tension transients. The "Progressive PID" regulator offers wide regulating range as well as electronic dampening of the dancer to ensure accuracy.

DTI-3000ce Dancer Controller with Tension Indication

The DTI-3000ce adds a new dimension to web tension control systems that employ a dancer. Dancer control is provided by Montalvo's unique "Progressive PID" circuitry, which regulates output to the unwind brake or rewind clutch and maintains the position of the dancer arm. The signal provided by the load cells is displayed on the analog meter and is used for setting and monitoring actual web tension.

I-3200ce & 3300ce Indicators

If web tension indication is required when using Montalvo T, N and UPB series load cells, model I-3200ce is used. I-3200ce is available in total tension, left/total/right and dual range configurations. SW-Series foil gauge load cells use the I-3300ce which is available in total tension or dual range configurations.

M-3200ce & M-3300ce Amplifier Module

Amplifier modules monitor web tension by amplifying load cell signals. They provide excitation voltage as well as zero and calibration circuitry. The output can be used to drive a digital or analog meter or for further processing to interface a PLC, PC or a servo drive. The M-3200ce modules work with the N, T and UPB series load cells from Montalvo. Three different types providing total tension, left/total/right and dual range configurations are available. The M-3300ce modules are available in two different configurations. They work with the SW series foil gauge load cells.

P-3000ce Pneumatic Interface

P-3000ce is used to facilitate the installation of a complete Montalvo tension control system consisting of a pneumatic brake or clutch, and a dancer control or load cell based tension control. It includes pressure gauge, air filter, I/P converter and may include optional multiple range control valves in a System 3000 cabinet.

S-3100ce Digital Tension Controller

The heart of the advanced S-3100 is Montalvo's proprietary "Diamatic" control algorithm, which ensures uniform control response regardless of roll diameter. The S-3100 is available for unwind and rewind applications. It is fast, precise, easy to use, and loaded with features that include nonvolatile memory for storage of control parameters for up to 15 materials, semiautomatic calibration and control tuning, and "bumpless" transfer between auto and manual.

S-3110ce Digital Tension Controller

This is a compact, panel mount version of the S-3100ce. It was designed to save space without sacrificing key features or performance. S-3110ce utilizes the same advanced circuit board as the S-3100ce enclosure model. All parameters are set by means of the alphanumeric display.

U-3500ce Ultrasonic Tension Controller

From Montalvo comes the U-3500ce Ultrasonic Tension Controller that provides non-contact web tension control in unwind and rewind applications. This microprocessor-based open-loop system is well suited for applications where tension load cells or dancer rolls cannot be mounted, or in applications where web contact is not desired. With a variety of unique capabilities, this new addition to the System 3000 family of controllers brings features only available in advanced closed-loop systems to the open-loop.

X-3000ce Analog/Digital Controller

The X-3000ce web tension controller is Montalvo's top-of-the-line analog controller with digital parameter handling. It was developed to provide accurate, repeatable tension control on all types of web processing machinery. It may be used in unwind or rewind applications with input signals from any of Montalvo's semiconductor strain gauge load cells.

SW-Series Compact Load Cells

SW Series load cells are suitable for idler or live roll applications and are available in three sizes, each offering a variety of load ratings. They are full-bridge foil gauge load cells suitable for tissue to board tension sensing. SWs may be mounted directly to a machine frame or they may be foot mounted. Their compact design and through-shaft capability make them a good choice for custom applications.

T-Series Tension Roller Assembly

Montalvo offers complete tension roller assemblies based on both T and T/er Series, UPB-Series and SW-Series load cells. Space-saving sensing rollers for mounting in web guide steering frames are available using T-Series. Montalvo is the best choice for a total system solution.

Safety Chucks

SKL Series NORMAL Safety Chucks

Montalvo SKL Series NORMAL Safety Chucks are available in either pedestal or flange mount and come in six load ranges. A standard feature of all chucks is an easily replaceable single wear part, the hand wheel/journal seat. Shown here are KL1000 pedestal and KL1000 flange. SKL Safty Chucks are only available in North America through The Montalvo Corporation, Gorham ME.

SKL Series SLIDING Safety Chucks

Montalvo's SLIDING safety chucks allow axial adjustment of rolls during operation. Adjustment can be made with optional hand wheel, working in tandem with an opposing sliding chuck. Axial carrier pins on the chuck journals assures precise, safe transmission of movement through the winding shaft. Shown is the KL180SS.

SKL Options

There is a long list of options allowing you to configure the SKL Series Safety Chucks to most any converting application. Options include: Hand wheel Safety Lock, Axial Carrier, Conical Chuck Journal Seat, Hand wheel Position Indicators, High Speed Models, Increased Hand wheel Opening, Long Housing Design, Air Shaft Inflation Integration and Radial Adjustment.
