Each of us has an opportunity to make this world a better place for all to live.

It can only be done step by step.

We challenge you to start a community outreach project through your company or in your community. After the first year of doing a community outreach project, it becomes an annual event the next. Good luck!

Mobile Phone Donations to Aid Domestic Violence Victims

In 2000, we started participating in the national Donate A Phone campaign. We have donated over 10,000 phones. It is an initiative by the wireless industry to collect a million discarded wireless phones. The collected phones are sent to a central location, refurbished and distributed to battered women through the Call to Protect program, or sold, with the proceeds benefitting domestic violence programs.

Then, in 2003, we started our own mobile phone donation campaign to raise funds for the local battered woman shelters. Our major recipient has been Support Network for Battered Woman located in Mountain View, California. We are investigating other shelters to donate to. We ship the phones to the CTIA Wireless Foundation. The CTIA Wireless Foundation then mails us a check made out to the local battered woman's shelter. Our first check in January 2003 totaled $1,244.10.

As of December 2003, R.M. Hoffman has raised $3,257.
This is beyond the initial 10,000 phones we originally donated.

R.M. Hoffman Company joined Realtor, Shelly Potvin, from Coldwell Banker of Los Altos, in a massive project. This picture shows our first shipment of over 1,250 cell phones plus the associated batteries, chargers, etc. These 3 pallets weigh 2,000 pounds; that is a ton of phone equipment.

Radio Shack was serving as a local collection point and was collecting phones as part of this program. This picture was taken the day we dropped off our May 2001 collection to our local Radio Shack store. They were extremely surprised at how much we had collected!
